GOD does great things. So the enemy may rage, plot and scheme all he wants, but we need to ask GOD to heal our spiritual blindness, that we might see as Elisha's servant saw. While he was yet preoccupied with fear of a mighty band of warriors come to seize the prophet of GOD, his spiritual eyes were opened. Then he saw that a great army of angels had surrounded the oblivious enemy army.
2 Kings 6:15 - 18
{6:15} And when the servant of (Elisha) the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, "Alas, my master! how shall we do?"
{6:16} And he answered, "Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them."
{6:17}And Elisha prayed, and said, "LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see." And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.
{6:18} And when they came down to him, Elisha prayed unto the LORD, and said, Smite this people, I pray thee, with blindness. And He smote them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.
GOD's promises are a source of comfort and they are also instruction in His ways. GOD's law, the ten commandments, are good and righteous and just. Right now I am learning this lesson, whose future observance promises rich reward if I abide its the conditions. Grace is furnished to sustain the journey.
GOD is working, and His ways are known to those who seek Him diligently. If we by slackness and profligacy allow His great works to become invisible to us, submitting to despair, folding our hands and shivering before the enemy, we become guilty of severe dereliction of our duty. The great controversy between GOD and the devil is a war, and every one of us is a fighter in it one way or the other. Now imagine how effective the fighter is who stands stationery on the battlefield, dazed and awed at the enemy's mighty battle equipment, divisions, formations, organization, tactics and movements. How effective is this fighter going to be in combat? Bure kabisa, amelala!
The tone of this blog these past two years or so has been altogether devoid of hope. I have looked with much awe at the enemy's devices, and quaked in my boots. I have failed to see that in the great controversy, GOD also works! We only need to look and see for ourselves!
The war imagery is fitting. We ARE at war, the only difference might be which side we're fighting for. The devil is armed to the teeth with the whole spectrum of literal arms, brute force, deadly deception and popular delusions. However the Almighty is all-powerful, and yet His armies' weapons are righteousness, truth, justice, mercy, love, longsuffering.
Exodus 34:6-7
{34:6} And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, "The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth,
{34:7} Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, unto the third and to the fourth generation."
Exodus 20:5-6
{20:5}Thou shalt not bow down thyself to [graven images], nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
{20:6} And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
Whoever you are, you can join the army of GOD now- to walk the Way of peace, your Instructor the Prince of peace. Fighting the good fight involves enduring violence and hatred, but it is endured, not inflicted by the servant of GOD. The literal fighting is taken care of already!
Exodus 14:13-14
{14:13} And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.
{14:14} The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.
GOD has done, does and will continue to do great things unto eternity. Yet He prefers to work through any of His children who seek Him freely, with the whole heart. Then GOD's ways will be known to them as He works though them, they having devoted their very lives to Him. And the blessing of GOD is no small thing! Even this minute, in this nasty world we inhabit, there are people of GOD studiously living lives that cause others to praise GOD for His great works. If we saw all the good that their divinely-inspired positive influence yields, we would easily go so far as to call them angels in disguise while praising GOD for sending them. And these people of GOD could include anyone, anywhere on this wide world, who seeks Him with the whole heart.
PSALM 14:2
The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God.
May GOD open our eyes, that we may see the battle through heaven's superior scope, and not be afraid! Let us pray for the excellent courage that comes with certain foreknowledge of victory, and the excellent grace to never stop working, ever conscious that the fields are ripe and the laborers few. Let us do our diligent part in the great controversy, not for ourselves only but also for others.
As long as we battle on the side of GOD, the enemy's vast numbers don't matter one bit. Indeed the Bible tells us that when Jesus returns with the armies of heaven, His enemies will not stand and fight!
REVELATION 6:15-17
{6:15} And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;
{6:16} And said to the mountains and rocks, "Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:
{6:17} For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?"
Let us plan, instead, on being present at the marriage supper of the Lamb with as many as possible of our fellows, strangers and even "enemies" that we can talk into it. At the feast, they will be glad they were told, and gladder they passed it on.
